Potential State Fiscal Oversight of D-R Regional School District

The letter below was received in the Board of Selectmen’s Office on November 6 and provides guidance as to the timing of the possible takeover of the fiscal management of the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).  Fiscal oversight by DESE includes setting a budget for the remainder of FY20 and overseeing the fiscal matters related to the operation of the district.

Residents are encouraged to provide information directly to the Commissioner for his consideration when establishing the budget for the remainder of the fiscal year. DESE contact information is included in the letter.

Please note: The DESE takeover will not occur if the school committee votes to accept the appropriation approved by the voters at the May Annual Town Meeting. The Board of Selectmen encourages the School Committee to take this vote at the November 12th School Committee Meeting.
