Cemetery Commission
The Rehoboth Cemetery Commission is pleased to announce the opening of Meetinghouse Memorial Garden at historic 17th century burial grounds -- Historic Cemetery #15 (formerly known as the Lake Family Plot at Palmer's River Churchyard) on Lake Street.
Created as a peaceful, natural setting for scattering human remains, the garden offers an affordable option for Rehoboth residents seeking an alternative to traditional burial.
A one-time fee of $650 includes use of the scatter garden and ceremonial space along with assistance from the Cemetery Commission, inclusion of the deceased's name and dates on a communal black granite monument, maintenance of a permanent record with the Town of Rehoboth, and perpetual care of the garden.
While individual monuments and decor is not allowed, families and friends can choose to plant selected indigenous perennials around the garden to honor their loved one.
Rehoboth Historic Cemetery #15 was the site of a Lake Family Plot at the Palmer's River Churchyard burial ground (RHC #14) on Lake Street where the Second Rehoboth Meetinghouse was located. The Lake family moved those interred there to the Village Cemetery when it was established in the 18th century.
The Rehoboth Cemetery Commission is responsible for maintenance and conservation of the town's 58 historic burial places including those located on private property with deeded right of ways. Local contemporary cemeteries in Rehoboth are governed by associations including Village Cemetery, Oak Knoll Cemetery, Steven's Corner Cemetery and Greenwood Cemetery.
Application forms for the Meetinghouse Memorial Garden are available by visiting the Town of Rehoboth website at www.Rehobothma.gov/cemetery commission or email Bev Baker, CemCom Chairperson at BevBaker2026@outlook.com.
